Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Programs Offered: Master / Doctoral programmes in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science

Commencement of:
1) Sale of information brochure and offline GATE 2009 application forms: 22.09.2008
2) Online application form submission: 22.09.2008
Last date of issue of information brochure and application forms:
1) By post from GATE Offices: 17.10.2008
2) At bank counters: 24.10.2008
3) At GATE office counters: 29.10.2008
Last date for submissions:
1) Online application form submission (website closure): 24.10.2008
2) Receipt of completed Online / Offline application form at different GATE Offices: 29.10.2008
Date of the GATE 2009 examination: 08.02.2009
Announcement of GATE 2009 results: 15.03.2009

Application Cost:
Offline: Application fee General & OBC Rs.1000/- (SC/ST/PD Rs.500/-)
Online: Application fee General & OBC Rs.900/- (SC/ST/PD Rs.400/-)

Mode of Payment (DD / Cash):
1.From Designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone on cash payment.
2.From Zonal GATE Office by sending a request letter and TWO self-addressed slips along with a Demand Draft for appropriate amount.
3.From Zonal GATE Office after handing over Demand Draft for appropriate amount.
Application Forms:

• In Person: Candidate can obtain a packet containing (i) OFFLINE Application Form (ii) Information Brochure (iii) Acknowledgment Card (iv) Envelope from: Designated Bank Branches corresponding to each zone on cash payment or Zonal GATE Office after handing over Demand Draft for appropriate amount.
  
  
• By Post: From Zonal GATE Office by sending a request letter and TWO self-addressed slips along with a Demand Draft for appropriate amount.
  
  
• Online submission can be done on www.iitr.ac.in

Eligbility:

• Bachelor's degree holders in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
  
• Master's degree holders in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.
  
• Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master's degree programme (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering / Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master's degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering / Technology.
  
• Candidates with qualifications obtained through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC / AICTE (e.g. AMIE by IE(I), AME by ICE(I)) as equivalent to B.E. / B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses are also eligible.
  

The completed application form should be sent so as to reach the addressee on or before 29.10.2008.
