“Full-fledged AUT-T campus in Ariyalur in a year”

ADMITTED: P. Devadas Manoharan, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University of Technology-Tiruchi, handing over the admission letter to a candidate at the constituent college in Ariyalur district on Friday.

Ariyalur: The Anna University of Technology – Tiruchi (AUT-T) will create full-fledged infrastructure for its constituent college in Ariyalur district at a cost of Rs. 23 crore in a year, Vice-Chancellor P. Devadas Manohar said on Friday.
The fund allocation was announced recently by Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for fulfilling the entire administrative, hostel and academic requirements of the college at Kavanoor. The permanent campus has come up on 23 acres of land provided by the Trust run by the family of Union Minister for Communications and IT A. Raja. With the Rs. 6 crore that was also provided by the Trust, the university has created classrooms and laboratories. The university has made arrangements for conduct of the second and third year classes at the permanent campus. The college started functioning temporarily from the campus of the Government Arts and Science College, Ariyalur.

Addressing media persons after a visit to the Ariyalur campus, the Vice-Chancellor said that the infrastructure work at the permanent site would be completed within a year. The university had already taken steps to provide transport services from Ariyalur town to Kavanoor for the convenience of second and third year students, Dr. Manoharan said.

He announced that admissions for B.E. programmes in Civil and Mechanical branches under Tamil medium would be made in the five constituent colleges in Tiruchi, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Pattukottai and Panrutti. For each of these branches in the colleges, 60 students would be admitted, he said. The constituent colleges will adopt a village each with the objective of infusing societal orientation to the students. The students will do their part for rural progress by sharing with the villagers the technologies related to their respective branches. The concept would be extended to all the 58 affiliated colleges next year, Dr. Manoharan said.

Earlier, he handed over admission letters to 124 first year students.
