VC inspects campus

Visits the site for engineering complex


Thirukuvalai: The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Anna University of Technology-Tiruchi, P.Devadas Manoharan, visited the Anna University, Thirukuvalai Campus, which has been running on the borrowed premises of the Anjugam Ammayar Government Higher Secondary School for the past two years, here on Monday.

The Vice-Chancellor also inspected the site allotted by the government for the new engineering complex.
The project proposed to be spread over an area of 40.2 acres was purchased by the government from the Dharmapuram Adhinam.

The site would house an academic block with a ground plus two floors, each with a built-up area of 1.57,337 sqft. The government has sanctioned Rs.17.18 crore for the project. To a query on the blueprint of the complex, Dr.Mahoharan said the complex would be designed as per the parameters specified for academic institutions.

In the interim period, six workshops that are currently under construction would function as temporary classrooms for the first year students. According to the Vice-Chancellor, classrooms would be air-conditioned and equipped with internet and the classes would commence on September 15.

The campus has been running with six classrooms. Five of them - civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics, ECE and computer science are offered in English medium - and civil and mechanical in Tamil medium.

The work for the academic block is proposed to be executed by the Directorate of Technical Education.
