Week-long meet for professors of microwave technology
Tiruchi: The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), National Institute of Technology – Tiruchi, will launch a week-long Faculty Development Programme on ‘Recent Advances in Microwave Integrated Circuits' on July 13.
Organised for the first time in south India and sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the programme is meant for fine tuning the skills of professors and researchers handling courses in microwave. Topics like computational methods, numerical techniques, fabrication methodology, BioMEMS (Bio Micro Electro Mechanical Systems), smart antenna, Wi-max, Wi-Fi, microwave fundamentals, carbon nano tube, metamaterials, biological effect of microwaves and recent research in coplanar waveguides would be discussed in full stretch, said S. Raghavan, Professor of ECE Department.
The programme will also help in removing the perceived aversion of faculty members towards electromagnetic theory, he pointed out.‘Biological effect of microwaves' and ‘microwaves in medicine' will be handled by stem cell expert and dentist Sankaranarayanan, Radiologist S. Senthil Vel Murugan and Laparascopic Surgeon Lakshminarayanan. Renowned scientist P.H. Rao of the Society for Applied Microwave Engineering and Educational Research will present a paper on ‘research topics of unconventional antenna and design methodology', Professor Raghavan said.
Eminent scientists have been invited from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; National Institute of Technical Teachers' Research and Training, Chandigarh; Cochin University of Science and Technology; Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi; and Indian Space Research Organisation to interact with the participants.
Informing that July 10 will be the last date for submitting applications , Dr. Raghavan said faculty members of AICTE-approved engineering colleges were eligible to take part in the programme.
