'Saarang' from today
Chennai: 'Saarang', the annual cultural festival organised by IIT-Madras, will begin with a Carnatic concert by M.Balamurali Krishna and a dance performance by Isha Sharvani's dance company 'Daksha Sheth' here on Thursday.
The five-day cultural fest will feature a host of performances by professional artists and a wide range of events for the nearly 50,000 students who are expected to be on the IIT campus.
The spotlights of this year's 'Saarang', launched with the tagline 'Heaven can wait,' include the celebration of traditional culture and practices Saarang Village, the youth summit Saarang Essence, promotion of social causes through Saarang Impact, art exhibition Dreams on canvas and Panache - The cultural show.
Saarang Impact will provide a platform for underprivileged children to participate in a variety of events at the cultural fest.
A popular lecture series by prominent personalities from various walks of life such as actor Kamal Hassan, former Union Minister Arun Shourie, vocalist Bombay Jayashree and director Anjali Menon will be held over the five days.
