Varsities likely to have uniform marksheet
Madurai: A uniform format of mark sheet for all universities in the State is being prepared by the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE).
Controllers of Examinations of all universities will meet in Chennai on January 20 to discuss the aspect of bringing uniformity in the mark statement issued to students.
Official sources told The Hindu here on Saturday that a communication sent to the Controllers stated that a common format for mark sheet was necessary in view of the Choice Based Credit System introduced in all universities from this academic year.
New component
The TANSCHE guidelines also suggested that the universities should introduce a new component, 'cumulative performance,' in the mark statements, taking the CBCS into account.
According to S. Shanmugiah, Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, the proposed changes are likely to be introduced from the second semester, depending on 'credits' secured by students.
"Right now each university has its own pattern of mark sheet. As per the information available from TANSCHE, the uniformity of mark statement will be applicable to autonomous colleges, too," Dr. Shanmugiah said.
When contacted, A. Ramasamy, Vice-Chairman, TANSCHE, said that the objective of having uniformity in mark statement and grading was to give students an opportunity to 'migrate' from one university to another.
"We are going to discuss several other aspects connected to CBCS such as conducting examinations by universities at the same time and also announcing examination results on time," Dr. Ramasamy said.
